Philosophy Miracle

what are my options if I fail gcse maths?
im failing maths at the moment, and will need a miracle to pass it (im taking booster classes but nothing seems to work). Im just wondering if colleges will accept me if i fail maths? or will i have to resit my exam, and if so, will I have to stay on at my schools sixth form to do this? the subjects im taking are english, media, history and philosophy, so maths aren’t really relevant, does this also affect this? thanks!
Well as long as your get 5 A* – C’s (which is what most colleges want) then its fine. Yes, maths are not relevant to the subject you are taking so im sure it will be fine. However, if your thinking about going to University [and depending on the course you wish to take] you may need a C

Babylon, Memphis, Persepolis: Eastern Contexts of Greek Culture $19 At the distant beginning of Western civilization, according to European tradition, Greece stands as an insular, isolated, near-miracle of burgeoning culture. This book traverses the ancient world’s three great centers of cultural exchange–Babylonian Nineveh, Egyptian Memphis, and Iranian Persepolis–to situate classical Greece in its proper historical place, at the Western margin of a more comprehensive Near Eastern-Aegean cultural community that emerged in the Bronze Age and expanded westward in the first millennium B.C. In concise and inviting fashion, Walter Burkert lays out the essential evidence for this ongoing reinterpretation of Greek culture. In particular, he points to the critical role of the development of writing in the ancient Near East, from the achievement of cuneiform in the Bronze Age to the rise of the alphabet after 1000 b.c. From the invention and diffusion of alphabetic writing, a series of cultural encounters between Oriental and Greek followed. Burkert details how the Assyrian influences of Phoenician and Anatolian intermediaries, the emerging fascination with Egypt, and the Persian conquests in Ionia make themselves felt in the poetry of Homer and his gods, in the mythic foundations of Greek cults, and in the first steps toward philosophy. A journey through the fluid borderlines of the Near East and Europe, with new and shifting perspectives on the cultural exchanges these produced, this book offers a clear view of the multicultural field upon which the Greek heritage that formed Western civilization first appeared. |

Expect a Miracle $14.99 In our hectic times, the search for love is often reduced to a joyless exercise, a desperate manhunt, or a cold and insensitive game. As many of us have learned the hard way, these callous approaches can leave us in a rut of negative beliefs, unfulfilled needs, and blame. In trying to be someone we think will be attractive, we lose sight of who we truly are and how to find the healthy and sustaining relationship that awaits us. Meditation coach Kathy Freston has been through that vicious cycle herself – and finally broke free. In this insightful and inspiring book she illuminates the path to greater self-awareness – and the real love we all crave. French Women Don’t Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure $112.95 Stylish, convincing, wise, funny-and just in time: the ultimate non-diet book, which could radically change the way you think and live. French women don’t get fat, but they do eat bread and pastry, drink wine, and regularly enjoy three-course meals. In her delightful tale, Mireille Guiliano unlocks the simple secrets of this French paradox -how to enjoy food and stay slim and healthy. Hers is a charming, sensible, and powerfully life-affirming view of health and eating for our times. As a typically slender French girl, Mireille (Meer- ray) went to America as an exchange student and came back fat. That shock sent her into an adolescent tailspin, until her kindly family physician, Dr. Miracle, came to the rescue. Reintroducing her to classic principles of French gastronomy plus time-honored secrets of the local women, he helped her restore her shape and gave her a whole new understanding of food, drink, and life. The key? Not guilt or deprivation but learning to get the most from the things you most enjoy. Following her own version of this traditional wisdom, she has ever since relished a life of indulgence without bulge, satisfying yen without yo-yo on three meals a day. Now in simple but potent strategies and dozens of recipes you’d swear were fattening, Mireille reveals the ingredients for a lifetime of weight control-from the emergency weekend remedy of Magical Leek Soup to everyday tricks like fooling yourself into contentment and painless new physical exertions to save you from the StairMaster. Emphasizing the virtues of freshness, variety, balance, and always pleasure, Mireille shows how virtually anyone can learn to eat, drink, and move like a French woman. Anatural raconteur, Mireille illustrates her philosophy through the experiences that have shaped her life-a six-year-old’s first taste of Champagne, treks in search of tiny blueberries (called myrtilles) in the woods near her grandmother’s house, a near-spiritual rendezvous with oyster |
